MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball squad looks to end its four-match Ohio Valley Conference road swing on a high note this weekend when it pays visits to Belmont at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13 and Tennessee State at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14.

UT Martin (9-10, 3-3 Ohio Valley Conference) enters the weekend in a three-way tie for sixth place in the league standings, two games behind co-leaders Eastern Kentucky and Austin Peay. The Skyhawks sport a 10-10 all-time record against Belmont while holding a 32-17 edge in the all-time series over Tennessee State.

Last weekend, UT Martin came up on the short end of a pair of four-set decisions – falling at SIUE (19-25, 25-19, 23-25, 20-25) and at Eastern Illinois (14-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-25). Jemima Idemudia led the Skyhawks with 28 kills (3.50 per set) and 13 blocks (1.62 per set) while Hannah Phillips compiled 19 kills (2.38 per set) on a .263 hitting percentage. Brooke Gyori scooped up a team-best 38 digs (4.75 per set) and Megan Fair also chipped in with 32 digs (4.0 per set) to pace UT Martin defensively.

Idemudia ranks in the top-10 in four different statistical categories: blocks (1.27 per set, first); points (3.71 per set, fifth); attack percentage (.302, sixth) and kills (2.97 per set, ninth). Gyori has accumulated the third-most digs (4.51 per set) in the league while Kenzie Hinshaw’s 6.49 assists per set ranks ninth. In OVC play, the Skyhawks rank atop the league in blocks (3.26 per set) – thanks in large part to the trio of Idemudia (1.83 per set, first), Justine Walker (1.27 per set, fifth) and Rachel Noffsinger (1.20 per set, seventh).

Tabbed as the preseason OVC favorites, Belmont is currently 9-9 and in a three-way tie for third place with a 4-2 league mark. The Bruins split with Tennessee Tech (won 3-1) and Jacksonville State (lost 3-2) in a pair of road matchups last week. Arianna Person slammed down 37 kills (4.11 per set) and accrued 29 digs (3.22 per set) while Ellie Ivancich came away with 36 digs (4.0 per set) in the two matches. Person ranks fifth in the OVC in kills (3.41 per set) and sixth in points (3.71 per set) for Belmont, who leads the OVC in opponent hitting percentage (.133) in league play.

Tennessee State (6-13, 2-4 OVC) also split against Jacksonville State (lost 3-2) and Tennessee Tech (won 3-0) over the weekend. Maya Evans snared OVC Newcomer of the Week accolades after tallying 24 kills (3.0 per set) on a .383 attack percentage while also turning away six blocks. Cherlie Adorno-DeJesus ranks second in the OVC in digs (4.58 per set) while Samantha Beltran’s 10.12 assists per set in OVC play rank as the second-highest total in the league.
