FUTURE SKYHAWK NAMED TO COLLEGIATE BASEBALL'S HIGH SCHOOL ALL-AMERICAN TEAM
MARTIN, Tenn.— University of Tennessee at Martin signee Ethan Whitley has been named to the 2017 Collegiate Baseball Newspaper High School All-American second team.
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s list includes 22 players who were selected in the first two rounds and Competitive Balance A and B of the 2017 Major League Draft. Whitley is one of only six Tennesseans named to Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s prestigious list.
The infielder from Mason, Tenn. prepped under head coach David Sage at Covington High School and led the 2017 Chargers to a 33-9 record as well as the school’s first state tournament appearance since 2012.
This past season, Whitley was also a finalist for The Commercial Appeal Sports Awards for the Greater Memphis High School area. His strong senior campaign led to a spot in the West Tennessee/North Mississippi All-Star Game, which was played last month at USA Stadium in Millington. Whitley tallied MVP accolades for the West Tennessee squad.
Whitley is set to join a Skyhawk baseball squad who is coming off its best season in Division-I history (since 1993). UT Martin won 25 games under head coach Rick Robinson and made its first OVC Tournament appearance since 2011.
