MEN'S HOOPS OPENS OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE PLAY ON THE ROAD AGAINST JACKSONVILLE STATE
MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team begins Ohio Valley Conference action with a road matchup against OVC East rival Jacksonville State at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
The Skyhawks have won five of their eight road games at Jacksonville State since the Gamecocks joined the OVC in 2003.
UT Martin (5-10) is coming off a tough 80-76 loss to Southeastern Louisiana on Dec. 21. In that game, the Skyhawks led 74-69 with 4:30 to go before the Lions ended the contest on an 11-2 run. Myles Taylor set a new career-high with 34 points to go along with 11 rebounds while Terence Smith and Justin Childs each added 12 points apiece for UT Martin, who committed only five turnovers.
Jacksonville State (6-9) is coming off a split in a pair of games in a tournament held in the British Virgin Islands on Dec. 20-21, falling 75-70 to Arkansas-Little Rock before defeating Coppin State by a 72-61 margin. Darion Rackley led the Gamecocks in scoring in both contests, pouring in 17 points against Arkansas-Little Rock and 20 points against Coppin State.
