UTM'S REEVES NAMED OVC GOLFER OF THE WEEK FOR SECOND TIME THIS SEASON

MARTIN, Tenn. – Freshman Ben Reeves from The University of Tennessee at Martin golf team has been named adidas Ohio Valley Conference Male Golfer of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon. Reeves shares the weekly award with Austin Peay’s Marco Iten and Korey Smith.

This marks the second OVC Golfer of the Week accolade in the young career of Reeves, who also brought home the award on Feb. 27. Overall, this is the third time a Skyhawk has won the league’s weekly honor this season, as Tyler Shellnut received the award on Oct. 10, 2012.

Reeves is coming off a spectacular effort at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate in Sevierville. The Knoxville native carded an even-par score of 144 over two rounds in the weather-shortened tournament, battling the elements to finish only one shot shy of medalist honors (behind Tennessee’s Brandon Rodgers).

Reeves fired a 74 in the first round and tournament-best 70 in the final round on Tuesday to finish second out of 64 competitors in the tournament. His steady play resulted in a 10-stroke victory for UT Martin, who is currently one of the hottest teams in the league with three wins in four tournaments this spring.

The Skyhawks return to action on Saturday, March 30 at the Red Wolves Classic in Jonesboro, Ark.
