JUNIOR GUARD NAMED ADIDAS OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MARTIN, Tenn. – UT Martin junior guard Jasmine Newsome has been named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week. The announced was made this afternoon by officials in the league office in Brentwood.
Newsome, from Millington, scored 31 points to lead The University of Tennessee at Martin to a 72-60 victory over Murray State this past Saturday afternoon. It marked her second straight game with 31 points.
She shot 56 percent from three point range and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. She has gone 56-of-60 at the line in her last seven games. Newsome has moved into second place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,802 points.
In addition, Newsome will enter Thursday night’s OVC game against Eastern Illinois at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center as the nation’s ninth leading scorer (21.9 ppg).
This is the sixth time this season Newsome has been named the Player of the Week.
