WOMEN'S HOOPS HOSTS IN-STATE OVC RIVAL AUSTIN PEAY TO FINISH HOMESTAND

The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team will host Ohio Valley Conference rival Austin Peay Monday. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center.
The Skyhawks (6-10) are coming off a hard-fought 82-72 loss to Murray State Saturday. Junior duo Jasmine Newsome and Heather Butler combined for 61 percent of the Skyhawks scoring output contributing 25 and 19 points respectively. Senior Rickiesha Bryant chipped in 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks to round out double figure scorers.
Butler amassed her 1,700 point against Murray State and needs three points to move into third on the all-time scoring list. She needs just 55 points to become the all-time leading scorer at UT Martin, passing Mary Kate Long with 1,754 career points. The junior continues her streak of 62-straight games with a three point field goal, chasing the NCAA record of 69.
Austin Peay enters the game with a 5-8 overall record and a 0-1 slate in the OVC. The Lady Govs suffered a 71-57 loss to Southeast Missouri this past Saturday.
Alexis Hardaway’s career-high tying 11 points led APSU while her nine rebounds set her career high. Senior Leslie Martinez’ 14 rebounds tied a career high she also had eight points, four assists and three steals.
The Lady Govs are led by senior Meghan Bussabarger with her 11.7 points per game. Martinez adds 10 points per game and a team-high 7.6 rebounds per game.
UT Martin will look their recent success to continue a two-game winning streak against the Lady Govs including winning four of the last five of the series.
Locally, the game will be broadcast live on the radio airwaves on Star 95.1 FM.
