MCGOWEN NAMED ADIDAS OVC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

MARTIN, Tenn. – Two days after her first career multi-goal outing, The University of Tennessee at Martin’s Hannah McGowen was named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week this afternoon.

McGowen becomes the 10th Skyhawk in program history to receive the OVC Offensive Player of the Week award. It is the first time the junior midfielder out of Murfreesboro brought home the accolade.

It was quite a week for McGowen, as she helped the Skyhawks expand their unbeaten streak to six. UT Martin began its OVC slate with a 2-0-1 record, tying Southeast Missouri on the road before downing Austin Peay and Murray State at home over the weekend.

After handing out an assist to help the Skyhawks post a 2-1 win over Austin Peay on Friday, McGowen provided both goals in UT Martin’s 2-1 comeback victory against Murray State on Sunday. With the Skyhawks trailing 1-0 at the half, she netted goals in the 56th and 74th minutes for her first two goals of the season.

McGowen has helped the UT Martin offense lead the OVC in points (65), shots (215) and assists (21). Individually, she ranks second in the league with four assists and is sixth in the OVC in shots (30).

UT Martin’s single-season leader in assists (10 in 2011), McGowen ranks second all-time in Skyhawk history in career assists (15), seventh in points (29), eighth in game-winning goals (three) and ninth in shots (98).

The Skyhawks return to action this weekend with a pair of OVC road dates. UT Martin faces Eastern Illinois at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, followed by a 1 p.m. matchup at SIU Edwardsville on Sunday, Oct. 7.
