BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the fourth time this season and 13th time in his renowned University of Tennessee at Martin career, Hunter Richardson has earned the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week award.
Richardson, who also won the award on Sept. 13, Sept. 20 and Oct. 4 this season, is now just one OVC weekly accolade shy of the league’s all-time record of 14 set by Jacksonville State’s Tomasz Anderson from 2011-15.
The senior out of Clarksville, Tenn. won the Samford Intercollegiate going away yesterday, besting the 58-man field by six strokes. Richardson shot under par in each round, carding scores of 70-70-69 on his way to a final score of 209 (-7) at the Greystone Golf and Country Club.
Richardson’s strong, steady performance also helped lift the Skyhawks to the team championship – the third tournament victory in a row for UT Martin. The Skyhawks overcame a 17-shot deficit on the final day to leap two spots in the final standings with an 884 (+20).
The win was the 11th medalist honor of Richardson’s career – all of which have occurred in the last three years. His 54 holes at the Samford Intercollegiate consisted of one eagle, nine birdies, 40 pars and only four bogeys.
Richardson leads the OVC with a 70.3 stroke average through 18 rounds this fall. The three-time All-OVC performer has finished in the top-three in five of UT Martin’s six tournaments in 2017-18.
The Skyhawks conclude their fall slate next Monday, Oct. 30 when they travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. for the 36-hole MTSU Intercollegiate, held at Old Fort Golf Course.
