MURRAY, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rifle team competed against the UTEP Miners over the weekend.
Against the Miners, the mixed team fired an aggregate score of 4,598 (2,269 in smallbore and 2,329 in air rifle). UTEP claimed the win after shooting an aggregate of 4,626 (2,309 in smallbore and 2,317 in air rifle).
Senior Joe Martin tied his personal-high in air rifle by firing a score of 589 while freshman Jacob Osborne tallied personal bests in both smallbore (551) and air rifle (574).
For the mixed team, Kaitlin Korinek led the way with a score of 577 as Martin (571), Alex Tamboli (563) and Brigitte Curcio (558) all chipped in for a smallbore score of 2,269. Alex Bapties (557), Osborne (551) Sean Phillips (551) and Andre Delcalzo (541) also fired in the discipline.
In air rifle, Korinek’s 591 paced the Skyhawks while Martin (589), Jennifer Plocinik (576) and Curcio (573) all combined to tally a score of 2,329. Osborne (574), Bapties (567), Tamboli (564), Delcalzo (559) and Phillips (519) also shot in air rifle.
Brianna Sawyers (552), Celia Gelpey (539) and Kalen Royal (539) competed on the women’s squad in smallbore. In air rifle, Sawyers (578) led the way for the women’s team as Gelpey (558) and Royal (540) also fired.
“We didn’t have a good day for smallbore, but the team came back solid in the air rifle team score,” said UT Martin head coach MJ Vowell. “It was good to see Joe Martin tie his personal best and for Jacob Osborne to shoot a career high, both in air rifle and smallbore”
The Skyhawks return to action on Saturday, Nov. 4 to begin a two-day competition against Morehead State.
