MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian team stayed at No. 9 in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association top-10 rankings that were released today, sponsored by Farnam.
This marks the third consecutive week that the Skyhawks have been recognized amongst the nation's best programs. UT Martin originally entered the polls on Oct. 10 at No. 10 before moving up a spot to No. 9 last week.
Georgia is ranked No. 1 in this week's poll, followed by No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 3 Auburn, No. 4 SMU, No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Fresno State, No. 7 TCU, No. 8 Baylor, No. 9 UT Martin and No. 10 South Dakota State. This week is the 12th time in program history that the Skyhawks have been ranked in the NCEA's national top-10 since the organization began its weekly ranking system in 2012-13.
UT Martin has risen to the occasion on several instances in 2017-18, as it has faced off against ranked opponents in all three official competitions. The Skyhawks began the season by falling 13-7 to No. 3 Auburn on Sept. 22, despite defeating the Tigers in equitation on the flat. Two weeks later against No. 8 TCU, UT Martin accounted for three of the four MOP's before narrowly losing by an 8-7 margin. On Oct. 7 at No. 10 Delaware State, the Skyhawks posted its first victory of the season - edging out the host Hornets by a 9-6 score.
UT Martin rounds out the fall portion of its schedule on Nov. 9-10 when it hosts the Skyhawk Invitational at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion. Head-to-head team matchups have not been announced yet but the field includes No. 4 SMU, No. 6 Fresno State, No. 9 UT Martin and previously ranked Delaware State.
