MARTIN, Tenn. – One week after cracking into the National Collegiate Equestrian Association top-10 rankings for the first time since 2015, the University of Tennessee at Martin has slid up a spot to No. 9 in the updated poll that was released this afternoon.
The Skyhawks have now been ranked in 11 different weeks since the NCEA started its weekly top-10 polls in 2012-13.
UT Martin improved upon its previous No. 10 ranking after an 11-8 exhibition win at Miami (Ohio) last Friday. In that competition, 16 of the 20 Skyhawks who competed made their season debuts as UT Martin posted a 5-4 victory in the Hunt Seat discipline and a 6-4 triumph in the Western discipline.
Jade Bleskey (horsemanship) and Hannah McDonald (reining) picked up MOP accolades in horsemanship and reining, respectively, for the Skyhawks against Miami (Ohio). In UT Martin’s three official competitions (all against ranked opponents) in 2017-18, Randi LaChance (equitation on the flat), Abbie Hopkins (equitation over fences) and Tess Baumann (horsemanship) have combined for five MOP’s.
UT Martin closes out its fall schedule by hosting the two-day, four-team Skyhawk Invitational on Nov. 9-10. The star-studded matchups – which will be announced at a later date – will feature No. 5 SMU, No. 8 Fresno State, No. 9 UT Martin and previously ranked Delaware State at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion.
