MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team put forth a valiant effort tonight but fell just short to Belmont 3-2 at Skyhawk Field this evening.

UT Martin (4-9-2, 2-4 OVC) tallied 14 shots on the evening in an overall tight contest. The Skyhawks were able to out-shoot the Bruins 7-6 in the first half of action while netting a goal in each half as well.

The UT Martin offense was led by juniors Danae Kaldaridou and Kaci Mitchell, both of whom found the back of the net. Katelyn Colvin stuck to her generous ways as the Arlington, Tenn. native was credited with an assist on each goal. Amy McGivern (three shots) paced the Skyhawks in shots while Alice Adams and Bella Roberts both tallied two shots apiece. Maggie Burkett, Alexius Thomas, Vanessa Dwumfour-Poku, Sara Ketis and Colvin also accounted for shots in the contest.

Erica Myers racked up another complete match at goalkeeper while making eight saves along the way. Myers made sure the Skyhawks remained contenders late in the match as the freshman tallied seven saves in the second period alone.

Belmont got on the board first as Jessi Boozer and Tara Austin put the Bruins ahead by netting two goals in the first 30 minutes of play.

UT Martin answered in the 31st minute as Kaci Mitchell headed a well-placed ball from Colvin to get the Skyhawks on the board.

Kaldaridou got in on the action in the second half when she received a pass from Colvin in a crowded box to knot things up at 2-2.

Belmont threw the final swing in the bout as Megan Michela notched the game-winner in the 73rd minute.

The Skyhawks look to dodge the weather as they travel to Austin Peay on Sunday, Oct. 8 to take on the Governors. First touch is slated for 1 p.m.
