MARTIN, Tenn. – Coming off back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship appearances and three straight postseason berths, the University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team starts their preseason practice schedule this afternoon.
Head coach Anthony Stewart opens his second season at the helm of the Skyhawk program, as he presides over a UT Martin squad that is the only Ohio Valley Conference school to win at least one postseason game in each of the last three seasons. The Skyhawks posted their third consecutive 20-win season in 2016-17, tying a school record with 22 victories.
UT Martin’s 2017-18 roster includes four returners while 10 newcomers are ready to make an impact. A dozen upperclassmen (two graduates, two seniors, eight juniors) grace the Skyhawk roster, including OVC All-Newcomer Matthew Butler (13.7 points, 3.7 assists per contest as the only UT Martin player to start all 35 games last season).
The Skyhawks also return senior Kahari Beaufort (33 games played in 2016-17), redshirt junior Fatodd Lewis (33 games played in 2016-17) and sophomore Mike Fofana (19 games played in 2016-17).
The UT Martin newcomers include graduate transfers Dominique Williams (Radford) and Lorenzen Wright, Jr. (Robert Morris) as well as juniors Delfincko Bogan, Jerome Davis, Jailen Gill, Terrence Parker, Da’Jon Streeter, Darius Thompson and Dalen Victor. Freshman Parrish Hewitt rounds out the Skyhawk newcomers.
A “Blue vs. Orange Game” will take place at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 6. The 2017-18 regular season officially begins in 40 days as UT Martin travels to Huntington, W.Va. to take on Marshall University on Friday, Nov. 10. The home opener is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. against North Carolina Central.
