MARTIN, Tenn. – One of the Ohio Valley Conference’s premier programs, the University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team returns to the hardwood of the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center with the opening of official practice on Sunday afternoon.
With the start of the regular season just 40 days away, the Skyhawks will hit the practice court in an effort to solidify a squad which features three returning All-OVC selections from a season ago while welcoming seven new players to the fold.
The Skyhawks feature a roster which includes senior Ashton Feldhaus, junior Myah Taylor and sophomore Kendall Spray who each earned All-OVC second team honors a season ago. Feldhaus averaged 11.0 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while scoring in double figures in 18 contests. Taylor averaged 12.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game while scoring in double figures 20 times. Spray – the league’s reigning OVC Freshman of the Year – paced the Skyhawks with 12.5 points per game while notching 19 games in double figures along with setting a UT Martin freshman three-point record with 89.
UT Martin also welcomes the return of senior Janekia Mason, junior Emanye Robertson and sophomore Breanna Boggs. The team’s six returners join newcomers Demi Burdick, Damiah Griffin, Zaire Hicks, Chelsey Perry, Paige Pipkin, Tamiah Stanford and Maddie Waldrop.
Fans will get their first look at the Skyhawks with an exhibition against NAIA-foe Lindsey Wilson College on Monday, Nov. 6. UT Martin will then officially open the season at Southern Illinois on Friday, Nov. 10.
