MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin golf coaching staff and student-athletes proudly play host to the 11th annual Skyhawk Fall Classic on Oct. 2-3, held once again this year at Paris Landing State Park in Buchanan, Tenn.
A total of 12 teams will compete for the tournament championship, as UT Martin is joined by Alabama State, Bethel, Cumberland, Incarnate Word, John A. Logan, Lindsey Wilson, Missouri Baptist, Murray State, Rend Lake, Tennessee State and Union.
A practice round will take place on Sunday, Oct. 1 before the 54-hole stroke play tournament starts the following morning. The tournament will officially begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 2 with the second round following later that afternoon. The third and final round tees off with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
The par-72 Paris Landing State Park golf course plays at 6,685 yards. Built in 1971, the course is located just off US Highway 79 and is one of the signature courses of the Tennessee State Park System and Tennessee Golf Trail.
Monday’s forecast calls for a high of 82 degrees, low of 63 degrees with sunny skies, 8 mph SE winds and a zero percent chance of precipitation. Tuesday’s forecast calls for a high of 82 degrees, low of 62 degrees with partly cloudy skies, 8 mph SE winds and a 10 percent chance of precipitation.
Last season, UT Martin won the Skyhawk Fall Classic for the first time since the tournament’s inception. The Skyhawks shot an 860 (-4) to win the tournament by six strokes while also producing individual medalist winner Hunter Richardson (210, -6).
The 2017-18 Skyhawks have finished as runner-up in two of the three tournaments so far this season. Richardson has nabbed two tournament titles as the senior from Clarksville, Tenn. ranks second in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 70.4 scoring average.
