BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin junior running back Ladarius Galloway was rewarded once again for his strong play on the season after being named adidas Ohio Valley Conference Co-Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season following a dynamic performance against No. 20 Tennessee State.
Galloway continued his hot start to the season against yet another nationally ranked foe. Ranking as the OVC’s leader in both rushing touchdowns and rushing yards, Galloway built upon his top ranks with 25 carries for 90 yards and two touchdowns on the ground against the nation’s 15th ranked rushing defense. Combined with two catches for 28 yards, Galloway tallied 118 all-purpose yards, marking the third time in four games in which the explosive back has eclipsed 100 all-purpose yards this season. Averaging 3.6 yards per carry, he tallied touchdown scampers of three and 12 yards, respectively, while recording a season-high 90 rushing yards allowed by the Tigers defense.
A native of Indianola, Miss., Galloway currently ranks second nationally with 514 rushing yards, sixth in rushing yards per game (128.5), 12th in rushing touchdowns (four), 13th in all-purpose yards per game (152), 21st in total touchdowns (four) and 30th in rushing yards per carry (5.91).
Overall, the No. 24 ranked Skyhawks have had a member of the squad be named the league’s Offensive Player of the Week for three consecutive weeks. Meanwhile, UT Martin has already notched six individual honors through the season’s first four weeks.
Galloway and the Skyhawks will return to action with a road contest at Austin Peay on Saturday, Sept. 30. Kickoff from Fortera Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m.
