MOREHEAD, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer squad battled but fell to the Morehead State Eagles 4-2 this afternoon.
UT Martin (4-7-2, 2-2 OVC) tallied a total of 18 shots and found two goals in the shootout. Nicole Collins paced the Skyhawks in shots with five (two on goal). Danae Kaldaridou (one goal, three shots, two on goal and one assist), Katelyn Colvin (one goal, two shots and one on goal), Amy McGivern (three shots, one on goal), Ashley Levingston (two shots) fired away in the contest. Freshmen Alice Adams, Blare Gerido and Bella Roberts all chipped in one shot apiece.
UT Martin goalkeeper Erica Myers logged all 90 minutes of action and compiled four saves on the day.
UT Martin found its first goal at the 26:32 mark when Kaldaridou took a pass from Sara Ketis to put the Skyhawks up 1-0.
The second UT Martin goal of the half came from Colvin as she received the ball on a touch from Kaldaridou to stretch the lead out to 2-0 in the Skyhawks’ favor.
Morehead State then scored three unanswered goals to close out the first half with Samantha Damante, Julia Hodge and Ashley Ritchie all connecting for the Eagles to go up on UT martin 3-2 going into the halftime intermission.
A pair of Kaldaridou shots came within a minute and a half of each other to start the second half with the first being saved by Morehead State’s Michelle Washburn. Adams then reeled off a shot for the Skyhawks but the strike hit off the crossbar. McGivern then headed a ball to Washburn for an Eagle save, the last shot on goal for UT Martin on the day.
Morehead State tallied its final goal at the 73:32 mark on a goal by Morgan Treser.
The Skyhawks will travel to Murray State on Sunday, Oct. 1 with kickoff slated for 3 p.m.
