BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Another tournament victory has led to yet another adidas Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week honor for University of Tennessee at Martin senior Hunter Richardson, the league announced this morning.
This is the second straight week and 11th time in Richardson’s career that he has earned the OVC’s top weekly award. The Clarksville, Tenn. native, who also brought home the accolade five times as a junior and four times as a sophomore, is the two-time defending OVC medalist and has notched three career all-conference mentions.
The latest OVC accolade for Richardson comes one day after he posted a top finish at the Memphis Intercollegiate, the 10th medalist victory of his collegiate career and second in as many weeks to begin the 2017-18 season. He carded rounds of 67-71-72 for a 210 (-6), leading wire-to-wire at the tournament played at Colonial Country Club.
Richardson’s opening round 67 was tied for the fifth-lowest single round in Memphis Intercollegiate history. He led the 74-man field with 13 birdies while ranking second in par-3 scoring (2.83, -2), fourth in par-4 scoring (4.00, E) and seventh in par-5 scoring (4.67, -4) to win the tournament by two strokes.
Richardson carries a 68.8 season scoring average into UT Martin’s next event, which is the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational held at Gateway National in Madison, Ill. on Sept. 25-26.
