BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Amy McGivern of the University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team has been tabbed as the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
The Ballynahnich, Northern Ireland native netted two goals in UT Martin’s 2-2 tie with Chattanooga on Friday while also leading the Skyhawks to a new program record of 44 shots – including a new single-match high of 14 by an individual. McGivern picked up her first goal on a penalty kick and her second in the waning minutes of the match. The game-tying goal came off of a double pass that began with Katelyn Colvin as she fired the ball in to Ashley Levingston, who found McGivern for the open look.
This marks the second time in McGivern’s career in which she has received a Player of the Week honor, her last time coming on Oct. 11, 2016 when she shared the award with Murray State’s Harriet Withers. McGivern joins teammate Danae Kaldaridou as the two Skyhawks to receive OVC honors this season.
UT Martin travels to Jackson, Miss. to take on the Jackson State Tigers tomorrow. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
