MARTIN, Tenn. – With its season opener looming just 18 days away, the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball squad began its practice season this morning at Skyhawk Fieldhouse.
UT Martin head coach Jaclynn Yocum-Wilson enters her third season overseeing the Skyhawk volleyball program in 2017. UT Martin returns seven players from last season’s squad that posted a 9-22 overall record and narrowly missed the Ohio Valley Conference tournament by a single match. Reining All-OVC first team middle blocker Jemima Idemudia paces three returning starters while seven newcomers will look to make an immediate impact for UT Martin in 2017.
“This is one of the most fun times of the year,” said Yocum-Wilson. “Our players came back from summer workouts in great shape and with a chip on their shoulders. We are all ready to get to work and mesh as a unit by the time our season starts up at the end of the month.”
The Skyhawks officially embark upon their 2017 campaign on Friday, Aug. 25 at the WVU Invitational in Morgantown, W. Va. UT Martin plays its first 12 matches at road or neutral sites before the Skyhawks’ home opener is set against Southeast Missouri on Sept. 19.
