Complete 2017 STATS FCS Prseason All-America Teams

MARTIN, Tenn. –
The University of Tennessee at Martin senior tandem of Kahlid Hagens and Londell Lee have been named to the STATS FCS Preseason All-America second team as announced by the organization earlier this week. The Skyhawk duo are two of 10 Ohio Valley Conference football players to be selected to the list.

Hagens, a senior safety from Maplewood, Mo., continues to rack up preseason accolades after ranking as one of the best safeties in the country a season ago. Coming off a strong campaign where he earned All-OVC first team honors along with a Preseason All-OVC nod, Hagens returns as the team’s leader in tackles, interceptions and fumble recoveries. A three-time OVC Defensive Player of the Week and a National Defensive Player of the Week honoree, he tallied 93 tackles – including 45 solos – while notching four interceptions and two fumble recoveries. He also recorded five pass breakups, two quarterback hurries and a pair of forced fumbles.

Lee, a native of Palos Heights, Ill., was tabbed a second team punt returner after ranking fifth nationally in both punt return touchdowns (one) and punt return average (13.6 ypr). He earned OVC Specialist of the Week honors after returning a punt 79 yards for a touchdown against Hawai’i while tallying 18 punt returns for 244 yards. Also serving as a key cog in the receiving core, Lee tallied 25 catches for 355 yards and four touchdowns. His best game of the season came against Southeast Missouri where he tallied four catches for 113 yards and a touchdown.

To date, the Skyhawks have had seven players tabbed as either preseason All-Americans or to the Preseason All-OVC squad including Hagens, Lee, Troy Cook, Jaimiee Bowe, Robert Burleigh, Kadarren Bond and Tae Martin.

UT Martin will officially open preseason camp on Friday, Aug. 4. The Skyhawks will then open the season with a home matchup against Clarion University on Thursday, Aug. 31.
