NISC Regional Brackets
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team has learned its regional placement for the first round of the Postseason National Invitational Softball Championship this evening as the Skyhawks will be sent to Region 5, hosted by Georgia State. The Skyhawks will open up tournament play on Tuesday, May 16 against Georgia State at 7 p.m.
The National Invitational Softball Championships (NISC) announced Sunday the teams making up the six regionals that will set into motion this unique postseason opportunity for Division I softball programs. Action begins on Tuesday with Pacific, Weber State, Illinois State, Lamar, Georgia State and Liberty serving as regional hosts. Each double-elimination regional concludes play on Thursday, May 18. The six-team Championship Round - also double elimination - will run May 21-24 at a host site to be determined.
UT Martin (39-18) will be making its third postseason appearance in program history after earning trips to the NCAA Tournament in 2009 and 2012. This also marks the first time the Skyhawks have appearance in the Postseason NISC.
The Skyhawks enter the postseason with a RPI of 79 and will be joined in the Region 5 bracket by Kennesaw State (36-18; 49 RPI), host Georgia State (34-23; 58 RPI), Western Kentucky (29-29; 98 RPI) and Alabama State (21-33; 249 RPI).
