NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team will open its participation in the 2017 Ohio Valley Conference Championships tomorrow against No. 3 seed Eastern Kentucky at the Centennial Sportsplex Tennis Center.
It was also announced today that tomorrow’s start time has also been pushed up to 9 a.m. Because of the threat of inclement weather, a decision will be made tomorrow morning if the match will be moved to the Centennial indoor facility.
The Skyhawks earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament after posting an 8-1 OVC record this season. Eastern Kentucky defeated No. 6 seed Murray State by a 4-2 margin in the tournament quarterfinals earlier today.
UT Martin is 23-6 all-time against Eastern Kentucky, including a 6-1 road victory on March 18. In that match, the Skyhawks won the doubles point behind efforts from Sarah Candeloro/Jemima Potter (6-4 at No. 1) and Burcu Tari/Andrea Plantada Cortes (6-0 at No. 3). In singles, Candeloro (6-2, 7-5 at No. 1), Hitomi Naito (7-5, 6-2 at No. 2), Tari (4-6, 7-5, 6-1 at No. 3), Asel Jumamukhambetova (6-3, 6-7, 1-0 (4) at No. 4) and Plantada Cortes (6-1, 6-3 at No. 5) each earned singles wins.
