BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Tennessee at Martin beach volleyball team took part in four matches in two days at the Fight Like Hal Tournament, hosted by UAB this weekend.

The Skyhawks fell 5-0 to UAB and Lincoln Memorial on Friday before falling 5-0 to New Mexico and 4-1 to Lincoln Memorial on Saturday.

Against UAB, Macy Catlett and Hannah Phillips competed at No. 1 but fell 21-10, 21-12. Rachel Noffsinger and Hayley Gray battled but fell 21-4, 21-14 at No. 2 while Macy Reigelsperger/Jemima Idemudia (No. 3) and Kelly Lean/Sarah Shaw (No. 4) fell by margins of 21-11, 21-10 and 21-6, 21-14, respectively.

The No. 2 duo of Noffsinger and Gray came close to a win against Lincoln Memorial on Friday but fell in a third set tiebreaker, 21-14, 15-21, 15-10. Lean and Shaw were very competitive at No. 4 before falling 21-19, 21-17 while the Catlett/Phillips tandem dropped a 21-17, 21-13 matchup at No. 1. Reigelsperger and Idemudia played at No. 3 once again but fell 21-7, 21-10.

UT Martin faced a quick turnaround on Saturday morning against a New Mexico squad that is receiving votes in the national poll. Catlett and Phillips (21-7, 21-14) were slotted at No. 1 while the Noffsinger/Gray duo lost 21-13, 21-10 at No. 2. Reigelsperger and Idemudia fell 21-8, 21-13 while Lean and Shaw fell 21-7, 21-9 at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.

Noffsinger and Gray picked up their first win of the season against Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, capturing a 21-19, 21-14 win at No. 2. Catlett and Phillips also nearly came away with a win at No. 1 before falling 21-17, 15-21, 17-15 in a tiebreaker. Reigelsperger and Idemudia pushed the Lady Railsplitters to the brink in the first game at No. 3 but ultimately fell 24-22, 21-8. Lean and Shaw also competed at No. 4 but fell by 21-12, 21-13 margins.

The Skyhawks close out their inaugural season next week with five matches in four days. UT Martin visits Austin Peay on April 19 before taking part in a tournament hosted by Central Arkansas on April 20-22. The Skyhawks will take on Central Arkansas twice and will also be matched up with Louisiana-Monroe and Houston Baptist.
