BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Another medalist honor has resulted in yet another adidas Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week award for University of Tennessee at Martin’s Hunter Richardson, who was officially recognized by the league this morning.
The award is the fifth of the season for Richardson, a junior from Clarksville, Tenn. It is also the ninth OVC weekly accolade in Richardson’s career, extending his own school record.
Richardson won his fourth tournament of the season and seventh of his illustrious career at the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate, held at Hermitage Golf Club Presidents Reserve in Old Hickory, Tenn.
The defending OVC medalist overcame an opening round 75 to secure back-to-back 69’s in the final two rounds for an overall tally of 213 (-3). Richardson won the tournament by two strokes while leading the 70-man field in birdies (13) and par-4 scoring (3.87, -4).
Richardson’s performance helped lift UT Martin to its fourth tournament victory of the season, as the Skyhawks posted an 880 (+16) to win the 13-team event by seven strokes.
With one week remaining in the regular season, Richardson leads the OVC with a 71.2 stroke average. The two-time All-OVC honoree will look to defend his medalist title while helping UT Martin defend its league title on April 24-26 when it takes part in the 2017 OVC Championships in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
