MARTIN, Tenn. – The seeding for the upcoming United Equestrian Conference has been announced, as the University of Tennessee at Martin will head into the event as the No. 3 seed this weekend in Dover, Del.
The Skyhawks will face No. 2 SMU on Friday, March 24 while No. 1 Fresno State takes on No. 4 Delaware State in the other semifinal. The winners will then compete for the championship while the two remaining teams will take part in a consolation match on Saturday, March 25.
UT Martin is in search of its first-ever UEC title, as the league was formed in time for the 2014-15 season. The Skyhawks join SMU (who is currently ranked eighth nationally) and Delaware State as teams in search of its first-ever UEC championship while Fresno State won the 2015 title.
Coached by Meghan Corvin, UT Martin is 2-5 on the season but has won two of its last three competitions. Five of the Skyhawks’ opponents this season are currently ranked in the top-five nationally, including a pair of matchups against current No. 1 Auburn.
In equitation on the flat, UT Martin has been led by Randi LaChance (team-high 78.0 average, four team points), Monica Zoromski (two MOP’s) and Claire Ottinger (four points). Zoromski also boasts a team-best 80.4 scoring average and five points in equitation over fences while LaChance has tallied a pair of two MOP’s.
Bobbie Piddock accounts for team-highs of four points and two MOP’s while Brittany Woodard sports a 71.8 average in horsemanship. Madeline Williams paces the Skyhawks in reining, leading the squad in scoring average (68.0), points (three) and MOP’s (two).
