MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin has officially launched a national search for a new director of intercollegiate athletics, and the search committee includes UT Martin faculty and staff, current coaches, students, alumni and community members.
Review of applications began Feb. 28, and the committee will recommend a short list of acceptable candidates to UT Martin Chancellor Keith Carver in the coming months. A new director is expected to begin work July 1.
The committee members are:
*Charley Deal, committee chair, UT Martin associate vice chancellor for alumni relations and annual giving;
*Jerry Carpenter, head coach, UT Martin golf team;
*Trudy Henderson, coordinator, UT Martin Office of Intercollegiate Athletics;
*Dr. Julie Hill, professor and chair, UT Martin Department of Music;
*Dr. John Schommer, professor, UT Martin Department of Mathematics and Statistics;
*Dr. Margaret Toston, UT Martin vice chancellor for student affairs;
*Carol Williams, interim director, UT Martin Division of Finance and Administration;
*Brooke Kennedy, a senior from Bath Springs and member of the Skyhawk softball team;
*Demonta Daniel, a senior from Dickson and member of the Skyhawk football team;
*Marybeth Kennedy, a senior from Franklin and secretary general of the Student Government Association;
*Andy Collins, chief lending officer, Security Bank and Trust Company;
*Todd Hampton, financial adviser, Edward Jones;
*Wayne McCreight, chief executive officer, Hamilton-Ryker.
Julio Freire served as UT Martin’s director of intercollegiate athletics from January 2014 until accepting a position with the University of Pittsburgh in March 2016. Kevin McMillian and Mike Swaim have since served as interim directors, and Swaim will continue in the post until the position is filled.
