BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Dalton Westfall, of the University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team, has been named this week’s Adidas Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the OVC on Monday morning.
Westfall, who finished second in last week’s voting, continued his dominant start to 2017 with another spectacular performance on Saturday afternoon in UT Martin’s 7-1 victory against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Buckhannon, W.Va. native tallied another double-digit strikeout performance as he racked up 12 punch outs against the Golden Lions running his season total to 27.
The 6-6 right-hander went 8.1 innings on Saturday, allowing only three hits and two walks with only one (unearned) run allowed. Westfall still has not surrendered an earned run on the season totaling 15.1 innings without an earned run crossing the plate. This is Westfall’s second consecutive weekly honor, as last week he was named College Sports Madness OVC Player of the Week.
Westfall and the Skyhawks return to the diamond this Wednesday, Mar. 1 as they travel to Huntsville, Ala. to take on Alabama A&M in a mid-week matchup. First pitch from the Rocket City is scheduled for 2 p.m.
