MARTIN, Tenn. – Dalton Westfall of the University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team has been named this week’s College Sports Madness Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week. This is Westfall’s first weekly honor of his career.
The Buckhannon, W.Va. native dominated Buffalo this past Saturday to lead the Skyhawks to a 14-0 victory. The Bulls managed just three hits off the UT Martin starter, as the 6-6 right-hander struck out 15 batters in seven innings of work. Westfall only allowed one runner to reach third base all day.
After opening weekend, Westfall currently ranks third in the country (first amongst pitchers who have only made one appearance) and first in the Ohio Valley Conference in strikeouts. As a staff, UT Martin ranks second in the nation in strikeouts per nine innings (13.7).
Westfall and the Skyhawks return to action this weekend when Arkansas-Pine Bluff comes to Martin for a three-game set. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 2 p.m.
