CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The University of Tennessee at Martin track and field squads set numerous personal bests in the team’s final tune-up prior to the OVC Championships next weekend with an appearance in the SEMO Redhawk Invite this weekend.
The Skyhawks competed well in the meet as six different athletes notched new personal-bests in the meet. Cameron Murrell posted a new PR in the men’s 400m with a time of 55.59 while Jasmyn Pilcher also posted her best race of her career, posting a mark of 1:02.73 in the women’s 400m.
In the men’s 55m, Jaylon Moore (6.55) and Porter Streator III (6.81) each set PRs as well. On the women’s side, Maya Brown set a PR with a time of 7.71 while Bryana Maclin’s time of 9.10 in the women’s 55m hurdles ranked as a collegiate-best.
In the men’s 200m dash, Jonathan Conley posted an impressive time of 24.08. Transitioning into the 800m dash, Leonel Perez won the event with a time of 1:59.93. Then in the men’s mile, Joey Palumbo won his heat with a time of 4:32.48 while Marcos Macias was close behind at 4:39.6.
Rounding out the men’s side of competition was Antonio Clifton who won the long jump with a distance of 6.90m.
In the women’s 800m, Kara Martin set a new PR with a time of 2:19.52 to win the event while Sydney Larkin notched a time of 2:38.47. Also in the women’s mile run, Ann Asipan set a new PR with a time of 5:08.04 to win the event while Larkin also competed, posting a time of 5:30.4.
“This weekend was another positive step in the right direction for the entire squad,” said UT Martin head coach Peter Dalton. “The sprints and jumps crews competed particularly well and we are excited for the teams’ first indoor conference championship next week.”
UT Martin will compete in the OVC Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Eastern Illinois beginning on Friday, Feb. 24-25.
