BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Following a high-volume scoring spree in the last two road games, University of Tennessee at Martin’s Jacolby Mobley was named adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week today.
In addition, Mobley was spotlighted by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association as its Player of the Week on Tuesday. He and Matthew Butler (Nov. 17) have each been recognized by the TSWA this season.
A senior guard out of Starkville, Miss., Mobley becomes just the 16th Skyhawk in school history to earn an OVC Player of the Week honor and the first to nab the weekly mention in 2016-17.
Mobley vaulted his way into the league lead in scoring in OVC competition, averaging 31.0 points on 52.5 percent shooting (21-of-40) in games at Austin Peay and Murray State. The 6-0, 160-pound sharpshooter knocked down 52.2 percent (12-for-23) of his attempts from three-point land while adding an 88.9 percent (8-of-9) performance from the charity stripe.
On Thursday at Austin Peay, Mobley poured in 27 of his career-best 36 points in the first half in an 85-79 victory. His 36 points were tied for the second-most in school history in an OVC game, joining elite company (two-time All-American Lester Hudson and two-time All-OVC honoree Michael Hart) as the only players to score at least 35 points in an OVC contest.
Mobley followed that performance with 26 points in a narrow 94-86 setback at Murray State on Saturday. He was aided by a career-best seven 3-pointers – including a 70-foot buzzer-beater at halftime – while logging all 40 minutes of court time.
Mobley leads the OVC with 3.5 three-point field goals made per game while also ranking third in minutes played (35.6 per game), fourth in scoring (19.2 points per game) and eighth in free throw percentage (.815). His 22.6 points per game in conference play ranks as the highest total in the league.
