The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team will hit the road after recently concluding finals back at home with a trip to the Sooner State and a matchup against Summit League foe Oral Roberts on Saturday, Dec. 10. Tipoff from the Mabee Center is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.

The Skyhawks (2-6) hits the road after wrapping up a three-game homestand against Chattanooga last Saturday with an 80-60 loss. The squad struggled in the contest against the in-state rival, shooting just 35.9 percent from the floor despite featuring a bench which produced 32 points. Two Skyhawks scored in double figures led by the play of freshman Kendall Spray and sophomore Myah Taylor who scored 16 and 12 points, respectively.

UT Martin has struggled through the difficult non-conference schedule which features nine opponents who qualified for postseason play a year ago. Despite a rather young squad which features just six years of experience in a Skyhawk uniform throughout the 13 player roster, UT Martin has found balance as four players average in double figures. Taylor leads the team with 11.3 points per game while Ashton Feldhaus (11.1 ppg), Spray (10.8 ppg) and Emanye Robertson (10.6 ppg) rounds out the quartet.

UT Martin is led by head coach Kevin McMillan who enters the contest with a 144-89 overall record in his eight year. Oral Roberts is coached by Misti Cussen who is 64-69 in her fifth year leading the Golden Eagles.

Oral Roberts (5-4) enters the contest on a hot streak, winning four of its last five games – including a 74-67 road victory over No. 12 Oklahoma on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Eagles also boast four players scoring in double figures led by Faith Ihim with 14.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Lakota Beatty (13.3 ppg), Maria Martianez (11.3 ppg) and Kaylan Mayberry (10.7 ppg) also rank atop the team’s scoring leaders.

Saturday’s contest will serve as the fifth meeting between the two programs in series history with UT Martin holding a 3-1 advantage. This will mark the first time the Skyhawks have played Oral Roberts during the Kevin McMillan era. The Golden Eagles won the last matchup with a 79-68 home victory on Feb. 11, 1995.
