MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team goes for its 11th consecutive home victory when it squares off against the Boyce College Bulldogs on Sunday, Dec. 4 at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. Tipoff time is set for 2 p.m.
The Skyhawks have not lost in front of their home crowd since Jan. 21, 2016 and have won 24 of their last 29 games since the start of the 2014-15 campaign. UT Martin has won by an average of 13.44 points in its home contests over that span.
On Thursday, the Skyhawks improved to 7-2 on the season after a 73-68 road win at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Despite the fact that UT Martin led for over 32 minutes of clock time, the game featured 11 lead changes and eight ties until Kedar Edwards’ 25 points, seven rebounds and seven steals helped the Skyhawks ice the victory on both ends of the floor. Fatodd Lewis (14 points, game-high eight rebounds) and Matthew Butler (13 points, four first-half three-pointers) helped UT Martin shoot 54.3 percent for the contest.
This game marks the second consecutive year that UT Martin has faced Boyce College, a National Christian College Athletic Association school based out of Louisville, Ky. Last season, Chandler Rowe accounted for a career-best 14 points and seven rebounds in only 13 minutes of play to help power the Skyhawks to a 122-60 victory. UT Martin tied a school record with 16 three-pointers and scored its most points since 1987 in the win over the Bulldogs.
Boyce College (3-6) snapped a five-game losing skid on Friday night with a 104-69 home win over Southern State Community College. The Bulldogs boast one of the NCCAA’s most prolific scorers in Trey Stewart, who dropped 36 points on Asbury on Nov. 12. In last season’s game at the Elam Center, Drew McKay compiled a team-high 12 points off the bench for Boyce College, who made 11 treys but were hampered by 21 turnovers.
