The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team is in hopes that a return to the friendly confines of the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center will alleviate the growing pains of a four-game road trip when the Skyhawks return home to host Southeastern Conference foe Vanderbilt on Sunday, Nov. 27. Tipoff from the Elam Center is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Skyhawks return home after spending the past four games on the road through a grueling stretch which featured contests in three different states. The team won one game on the road trip and is hoping that some friendly scenery will offset the team’s youth and early season injuries. The Skyhawks narrowly dropped their last contest to former Ohio Valley Conference rival Samford on Wednesday, falling 69-62.

UT Martin will look to build upon a pair of career-high scoring performances in its last time out. Sophomore point guard Emanye Robertson put on a show at Samford, scoring 19 points while tallying seven assists and four steals in the contest. Robertson was joined by junior Ashton Feldhaus who eclipsed her previous career high with 14 points and six rebounds against the Bulldogs. Meanwhile, freshman Kendall Spray has scored in double figures in the past five games while leading the team with 11.8 points per game.

The Skyhawks are coached by Kevin McMillan who is currently in his eighth season with a 143-87 record. McMillan - the two-time reigning Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year - ranks seventh on the OVC’s all-time wins leaderboard. Vanderbilt is led by first-year head coach Stephanie White who joined the program after serving as head coach of the WNBA’s Indiana Fever for the past two seasons. White is 4-1 as a collegiate head coach.

Vanderbilt (4-1) enters the contest riding a three-game winning streak after completing an impressive homestand which featured three victories over the span of six days. Most recently the Commodores defeated Robert Morris 75-59 on Tuesday after knocking off Drexel and Duke earlier in the season. The Commodores are led offensively by Rebekah Dahlman who paces the squad with 14 points and four assists per game. Senior Marqu’es Webb also provides a valuable asset, tallying a team-high 10.8 rebounds per game.

Sunday’s game serves as the 13th meeting between the two programs in series history with Vanderbilt holding a sizable 11-1 advantage. The Commodores have won 10 straight matchups against the Skyhawks dating back to 1982. The Skyhawks lone series victory came at home with a 71-68 decision in 1980.
