MURRAY, Ky. – Jemima Idemudia capped off a remarkable debut season for the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team with a spot on the All-Ohio Valley Conference first team, which was announced at the league’s postseason banquet this evening.

Idemudia becomes just the fifth different Skyhawk to earn All-OVC first team honors, and first since 2012. The 6-2 junior from Glendale, Ariz. was one of only three middle blockers on the league’s 14-member first team, as voted by the OVC head coaches and sports information directors.

After transferring in from Scottsdale Community College, Idemudia was one of the OVC’s most intimidating presences at the net in 2016. She ranked fifth in the league in blocks (126, 1.15 per set) and ninth in points (387, 3.52 per set) and also led UT Martin in kills (310, 2.82 per set) while pacing the full-timers with a .243 attack percentage.

Idemudia secured double-digit kills in 14 different matches, eight of which came in conference play. She was responsible for a career-best 22 kills in the win at Eastern Illinois on Nov. 4 and also reached the 20-kill plateau against Tennessee State (21 on Oct. 14) and against Louisiana-Lafayette (20 on Sept. 16).

Idemudia hit over .300 on nine occasions, including a career-best .514 in the aforementioned 21-kill performance against Tennessee State (just three errors in 35 swings).

Defensively, Idemudia accumulated five or more blocks 14 times in 2016 – including nine matchups against OVC opposition. She dialed up a career-best seven swats in four different contests, accomplishing that feat in three sets against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Sept. 3), four sets against SIUE (Sept. 30), five sets against Southeast Missouri (Oct. 4) and five sets at Eastern Illinois (Nov. 4).
