BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin junior safety Kahlid Hagens kept the weekly honors going by garnering adidas Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week and third time this season for his performance against Southeast Missouri.

A native of Maplewood, Mo., Hagens post yet another standout performance for the Skyhawks in a 24-10 victory over Southeast Missouri. Hagens led the team with eight tackles while tallying a pair of interceptions – including a game-clinching interception with just under a minute to play. In addition to his ball-hawking skills, he forced a fumble and a quarterback hurry. His two interceptions ranked as the best individual performance since Thad Williams tallied a pair against Murray State in 2013 while becoming just the fourth player in the OVC to accomplish the feat this season.

Hagens paced a defensive effort which played a big part in holding the Skyhawks 11th consecutive opponent to fewer than 300 passing yards while limiting Southeast Missouri to a season-low 10 points for the second straight week. Hagens leads the leads the team with 90 tackles while ranking first in the OVC with four interceptions. He has also tallied five pass breakups, two quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery on the season.

UT Martin will now turn its focus to defending OVC champion No. 2 Jacksonville State on Saturday, Nov. 19. A win for the Skyhawks would notch the program’s first OVC championship since 2006 and clinch the league’s automatic FCS Playoff berth. Kickoff from JSU Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
