MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team officially begins the Anthony Stewart Era when the 66th season of Skyhawk basketball opens with a Friday, Nov. 11 matchup at Ole Miss out of the Southeastern Conference. Tipoff from the Pavilion at Ole Miss is set for 6 p.m.

After two seasons as the program’s associate head coach, Stewart was named the program’s 10th head coach last April. He will look to continue building a surging Skyhawk program that has posted back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since 1981-83 and has won four postseason games in the last two years.

UT Martin returns seven players who saw action from last season’s squad that won the Ohio Valley Conference West division championship and made the OVC Tournament championship game for the first time in school history. Kedar Edwards (8.2 points, team-high 7.1 rebounds per game) is the Skyhawks’ only returning starter but UT Martin also boasts senior guard Jacolby Mobley, who tossed in 10.8 points per outing in a reserve role last season.

The Skyhawks defeated Transylvania by a 89-74 margin in an exhibition on Monday. Edwards registered a game-high 23 points while Mobley knocked down five 3-pointers on his way to 20 points for UT Martin. Matthew Butler added 13 points and the frontcourt duo of Fatodd Lewis (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Chandler Rowe (10 points, game-high 12 rebounds) secured double-doubles for the Skyhawks, who led by as many as 33 points in the second half.

Ole Miss returns six players and two starters from last year’s squad that went 20-12. In head coach Andy Kennedy’s tenure, the Rebels are one of only two teams in the SEC and 16 programs nationwide to record 10 consecutive winning seasons.

Sebastian Saiz (11.7 points, 8.7 rebounds per game in 2015-16) accumulated eight double-doubles last season and is the SEC’s active career leader in rebounding (599). Rasheed Brooks (8.3 points per game) also returns for Ole Miss.
