MARTIN, Tenn. – All five starters for the University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team cracked double-figures in the scoring column tonight as the Skyhawks posted an 89-74 exhibition victory over Transylvania at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center.
UT Martin never trailed during this evening’s contest, leading by as many as 33 points in the second half before a hot-shooting Pioneer squad tested the Skyhawks in the latter stages of the contest. UT Martin outrebounded Transylvania by a 42-24 margin and outscored the Pioneers 28-6 in second chance points.
Kedar Edwards tossed in a game-high 23 points while adding four steals for the Skyhawks. Jacolby Mobley knocked down five 3-pointers on his way to 20 points while Matthew Butler added 13 points. The frontcourt duo of Fatodd Lewis (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Chandler Rowe (10 points, game-high 12 rebounds) also secured double-doubles to help power UT Martin through.
Transylvania was led by 22 points out of Spencer McKinney while Kyle Gullett added 19 points for the Pioneers, a Division-III school located in Lexington, Ky.
Tonight’s game served as the only exhibition tuneup for the Skyhawks, who officially opens its season at 6 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 11 at Ole Miss.
“We have a lot of work to do,” UT Martin head coach Anthony Stewart said. “We have to find the right pieces and the right combinations but we also have to get some production out of our bench – we played our starters a long time tonight. It was good to go against somebody other than ourselves. We are going to learn from this, break down the film, get back in the gym and start working towards Ole Miss.”
