BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the second time this season, University of Tennessee at Martin junior Jemima Idemudia has been named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week.
In addition, Idemudia was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Volleyball Player of the Week.
Idemudia, who also won the OVC's weekly honor on Oct. 17, enjoyed a remarkable weekend while helping the Skyhawks to a road split at Eastern Illinois and SIUE. The Glendale, Ariz. native averaged 4.00 kills per set on a .315 attack percentage, committing just seven errors over two matches. She also swatted away 1.33 blocks per set to help guide UT Martin defensively.
The 6-2 middle blocker dialed up a career-best 22 kills (on a .291 attack percentage) and swatted away seven blocks to help will the Skyhawks to a five-set win at Eastern Illinois on Friday. The next day at SIUE, Idemudia slammed down 14 kills (against just one error) while hitting .351 to go along with five blocks and four digs in a 3-1 loss.
Idemudia ranks fifth in the OVC in blocks (1.13 per set) and eighth in points (3.56 per set). She is one of four players on the team who has played in all 104 sets this season while also pacing the team in kills (298, 2.87 per set).
UT Martin will look to make an OVC Tournament push this week as the regular season concludes. The Skyhawks travel to Southeast Missouri on Tuesday, Nov. 8 before hosting Jacksonville State on Friday, Nov. 11.
