MARTIN, Tenn. – Kedar Edwards, a redshirt senior forward on the University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team, has been named to the College Sports Madness Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference third team.
Edwards saw playing time in 31 games (including 19 starts) in his debut season as a Skyhawk in 2015-16. He led the team and ranked sixth in the OVC in rebounding (7.1 boards per game) and in steals (1.5 per game) while also ranking third in the league in offensive rebounding (2.7 per game).
The 6-5, 200-pound Brooklyn, NY native averaged 8.2 points per contest last year, cracking double-digits in the scoring column in 12 different games. Edwards poured in a career-best 18 points at Southeast Missouri on Jan. 24 and again at Ball State in the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament on March 20.
Edwards corralled six double-doubles as a redshirt junior, including a string of four in a row in conference play from Jan. 30 through Feb. 11. Included in that stretch was a game against Southeast Missouri where he hauled in 21 rebounds – the most for any UT Martin player since 1980.
Edwards is one of nine returning Skyhawks (including two Division-I transfers) for first-year head coach Anthony Stewart in 2016-17, as UT Martin opens its season at Ole Miss on Nov. 11.
