MARTIN, Tenn. – Skyhawk fans will get their first chance to catch a glimpse of the 2016-17 University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team this Thursday, Oct. 27 when the squad holds its Blue-Orange scrimmage at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. The free event starts at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.
The Blue-Orange scrimmage will be a full 40-minute game. The Blue team will consist of Dante Bailey, Matt Butler, Fatodd Lewis, Malik London, Jacolby Mobley, AJ Nywesh and Malik Pugh. The Orange squad is made up by Kahari Beaufort, Travaun Coad, Nick Detlev, Kedar Edwards, Mike Fofana, Jalen Jackson, Javier Martinez and Chandler Rowe.
Head coach Anthony Stewart takes over the Skyhawk program after spending the last two seasons as associate head coach. In that span, UT Martin racked up 41 victories and was the only Ohio Valley Conference program to notch at least one postseason win in each year.
The Skyhawks return seven players from the 2015-16 squad that advanced to the OVC Tournament championship game for the first time in program history. Stewart also welcomes in nine newcomers and two Division-I transfers who sat out last season.
UT Martin will hold an exhibition against Transylvania at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7 before officially starting its 2016-17 campaign at Ole Miss on Nov. 11. For information on season ticket packages and single-game tickets, contact Skyhawk ticket operations manager Fran Spears at (731) 881-7207.
