MARTIN, Tenn.- The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team will look to get back to its winning ways when playing host to in-state rival Middle Tennessee on I Heart UTM Day on Tuesday, April 22. Action from Bettye Giles Field is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Skyhawks (23-22-1, 10-9 OVC) have dropped six of the last seven games and are looking to regroup as they prepare for the final push for an OVC Tournament berth. Highlighting last weekend’s series against Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State was the play of Stephanie Nidiffer and Renate Meckl. Nidiffer hit a pair of home runs in the series split against Tennessee Tech while Meckl knocked a solo home run for her third of the season.

Senior Kayla Wade leads the team with a .322 batting average, including her 16th triple of her career which trails the UT Martin record by just two. Deven Wilson is hitting .312 with a team-leading nine doubles and 21 RBIs. Carly Gonzales is the third Skyhawk over the .300 mark with a .302 average with one home run and 11 RBIs.

Elizabeth Wiegand leads the team with a 10-6 record in 124.1 innings of work. She has struck out 65 while posting a 3.04 ERA. Casey Vincent is 6-7 on the season with a 2.60 ERA in 89.0 innings while striking out 61.

Middle Tennessee (7-39) has three players hitting over .300, led by Laura Dukes with a .373 average, four home runs and 27 RBIs. Kayla Toney leads the team with seven home runs and 30 RBIs while hitting .316 on the year. In the circle, the Blue Raiders post a team 5.08 ERA and have held opponents to a .333 batting average.

The Blue Raiders lead the series matchup with a 25-12-1 advantage, but the Skyhawks won the most recent outing with a 7-2 victory on March 22, 2013.
