– The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s tennis team earned the No. 5 seed in this week’s Ohio Valley Conference Tournament at the Heflin Tennis Center in Paducah, Ky. The Skyhawks will open tournament play against No. 4 seed SIU Edwardsville on Thursday, April 17 at 2 p.m.

The Skyhawks (8-10, 5-5 OVC) clinched its 21st appearance in the OVC Tournament field in the last 22 years with a commanding victory over Austin Peay on a day which the Skyhawks honored a pair of seniors in Ivon Simic and Katie McCall. The victory also ensured that the Skyhawks would finish with a record of .500 or better in OVC play in 21 of the 22 years they have been members of the conference. The Skyhawks finished the season by winning four of its final six matches.

UT Martin posts a formidable team behind the play of Simic and the freshmen duo of Hitomi Naito and Burcu Tari. Simic posted a 7-11 record in singles play, competing at No. 1 all season. Both Naito and Tari finished the regular season with identical 15-3 records, including substantial winning streaks of 13 and six matches, respectively.

Murray State earned the No. 1 seed while Eastern Kentucky is the No. 2 seed. Morehead State took the third seed while SIUE earned the No. 4 spots. Rounding out the field is Eastern Illinois.

First Round - Thursday, April 17

Match 1 - #3 Morehead State vs. #6 Eastern Illinois - 2 p.m.

Match 2 - #4 SIUE vs. #5 UT Martin - 2 p.m.

Semifinals - Friday, April 18

Match 3 - #2 Eastern Kentucky vs. Match 1 winner - 2 p.m.

Match 4 - #1 Murray State vs. Match 2 winner - 2 p.m.

Championship - Saturday, April 19

Match 5 - Match 3 winner vs. Match 4 winner - 2 p.m.
