- The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team will look to defend its three consecutive Ohio Valley Conference Tournament titles when opening tournament play in the league's semifinals against No. 5 seed Eastern Kentucky on Friday, March 7. Tipoff from Municipal Auditorium is scheduled for noon.

The Skyhawks (22-7, 15-1 OVC) enter tournament play fresh of the program's second outright conference championship and tied for the best conference finish in school history. Most recently the Skyhawks rewarded their four seniors with a record breaking performance in a 116-85 victory over Austin Peay.

Sending the seniors out in deserving fashion, the Skyhawks broke four UT Martin records, on top of several personal bests. UT Martin scored a single-game record 116 points, breaking the previous mark of 114 points against Tennessee State on Jan. 2, 2012. The senior duo of Heather Butler and Jasmine Newsome continued to rewrite the record books as Butler tied her previous single-game record with 44 points while Newsome dished out 25 points and 14 assists.

The Skyhawks saw their first postseason accolades come in this week, as Butler was named OVC Player of the Year for the first time in her career while Newsome took home her third OVC Defensive Player of the Year honor. Both Butler and Newsome were named to their fourth All-OVC first team selection. Ashia Jones joined the duo by bring home the program's second Freshman of the Year award while being tabbed to the All-Newcomer team and All-OVC second team.

UT Martin has won three consecutive OVC Tournament titles, including an 87-80 overtime victory over Tennessee Tech on March 9, 2013. Overall, the Skyhawks are 16-12 in tournament play but have won seven consecutive tournament contests. The Skyhawks won the lone contest against Eastern Kentucky this season, picking up the 87-65 victory. Butler scored a game-high 44 points in the victory.
