NASHVILLE, Tenn.– The University of Tennessee at Martin senior guard Heather Butler garnered Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for the third time this season from the Tennessee Sports Writers Association, averaging 36.5 points with 14 3-pointers in a pair of games to close the regular season for the Skyhawks.
The Medina, Tenn., native posted 29 points with five 3-pointers along with four assists and two steals in a victory at Eastern Illinois. Then on Senior Night, the 5-foot-5 guard tied the UTM single-game record with 44 points against Austin Peay, connecting on 9-of-12 three-point attempts and 16-of-28 field goals overall. She posted five rebounds, three assists and four steals as well.
Butler set the OVC’s career 3-point field goals made record in the process, surpassing Morehead State’s Chynna Bozeman, and has 381 career trifectas. She also moved into 20th on the NCAA’s all-time scoring list with 2,811 points and recorded her 125th and 126th consecutive double-figure scoring game, which ranks seventh all-time in the NCAA.
UT Martin, the top seed in this week’s OVC Championships, plays Friday at noon in the semifinals of the tournament at Municipal Auditorium in Nashville.
