OVC Basketball Report

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Senior guard Heather Butler from the University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team has once again been named adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for her record tying performance against Eastern Kentucky on Monday night.

Butler set a new personal best with 44 points on Monday evening. Her explosive performance not only set a new career high for the highly decorated senior, but etched her name into yet another school record. Her 44 point evening ties the program’s single game scoring record with Jasmine Newsome who set the mark earlier this season against Quinnipiac.

A Medina, Tenn. native, Butler made 12 of 19 field goals while converting on 14 of 15 opportunities from the free throw line. Butler and the high scoring Skyhawks, became the first team to score 78 points or more against Eastern Kentucky this season. In addition to her scoring output, Butler tallied a game high three steals.

Butler now sits atop the OVC leaderboard with 2,651 career points, which ranks 31st all-time on the NCAA scoring list. She has reached double figures in 120 straight games, the second longest consecutive double-digit scoring streak in NCAA history. This is Butler’s fourth OVC Player of the Week honor this season and ninth of her career.

Butler and the Skyhawks will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 8 when they travel to SIU Edwardsville. Action from the first game of the doubleheader in scheduled for 4 p.m.
