MARTIN, Tenn. – Terence Smith, a redshirt junior guard on the University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team, was selected as a Capital One Academic All-District selection for District 3 by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday.
Smith joins Tennessee Tech’s Dennis Ogbe, Belmont’s JJ Mann, North Carolina’s Marcus Paige and Vanderbilt’s Shelby Moats as the NCAA Division-I representatives from District 3. These five honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in February.
In the classroom, Smith boasts a cumulative 3.67 Grade Point Average while majoring in management. He is a three-time Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection.
This season, the 6-4, 195-pound native of Russellville, Ala. is the only Skyhawk to have started in all 24 games. Smith has led the team in scoring six times and reached double-figures in the scoring column in 22 out of 24 games, including a trio of 20-plus point efforts. He currently ranks third in the OVC in three-point field goal percentage (.437), fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.9), eighth in three-point field goals made (1.9 per game), 10th in scoring (14.5 points per game), 10th in free throw percentage (.794) and 10th in minutes played (32.2 per game).
The 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.
