MEN'S HOOPS HOSTS SIUE ON NABC COACHES VS. CANCER SUITS AND SNEAKERS AWARENESS WEEKEND

MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team will go for its third straight Ohio Valley Conference home victory when it takes on the SIU Edwardsville Cougars at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center on Saturday, Jan. 25. The game - which is the second contest of a women's and men's doubleheader - is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
Saturday's game is also part of NABC Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Awareness Weekend. Skyhawk head coach Jason James and the UT Martin assistant coaches will all wear sneakers with their suits to raise awareness for cancer research. Select Skyhawk merchandise will also be available for sell with all proceeds going to the NABC Coaches vs. Cancer fund. Polo shirts, hooded sweatshirts, shooting shirts, practice jerseys and game jerseys will all be on sale with prices ranging from $5 to $25 and sizes available from medium through 4XL.
The Skyhawks swept the season series over SIU Edwardsville last year, winning 65-62 in Edwardsville and 77-68 in Martin. Myles Taylor nearly averaged a double-double against the Cougars in 2012-13, tallying 17.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
UT Martin (7-15, 2-5 OVC) is coming off a 84-77 comeback victory over Eastern Illinois on Thursday. Mike Liabo tallied 20 points while Terence Smith (19), Dee Oldham (12) and Khristian Taylor (11) also cracked double-figures in the scoring column.
SIU Edwardsville (6-14, 3-4 OVC) nearly pulled off an impressive comeback at Southeast Missouri before falling 82-78 on Thursday. The Cougars trailed by 25 points late in the first half but clawed back within one point with nine seconds to play before the Redhawks made four free throws to close out the game. Reigning OVC Player of the Week Rozell Nunn led SIU Edwardsville with 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting.
