BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference announced today that the 2014 OVC Tennis Championships will be held April 17-19, in Paducah, Ky. at the Larry J. Heflin Tennis Center.
This will be the fifth time in the past six years and the second year in a row that the OVC Tennis Championships are held in Paducah. All the other years since 1992, the tournament has been held in Nashville. The tennis championships were also held in Paducah from 2009 to 2011.
This year the championships will be a little different as there will be no host school for the tournament. Instead, the OVC will be hosting the tournament. "We're pleased to take on the hosting responsibilities; this will allow our institutions to focus on the competition aspect of the tournament and not have to worry about the logistics of running the championships," said Jennifer Gibbs, Assistant Commissioner for Championships. Gibbs also speaks highly of the tournament site, "We're very excited about going back to Paducah, I think the tennis facility provides a great atmosphere and the city has always been very accommodating."
The tournament will feature the top six women's tennis teams, with the No. 1 and No. 2 seeded teams receiving first round byes. Last year, Eastern Kentucky defeated Jacksonville State 4-0 to capture the women's title.
