MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team will look to make history on Saturday, Jan. 11 when they play host to Ohio Valley Conference East member Belmont. Tip-off from the Elam Center is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Skyhawks (10-6, 3-0 OVC) return home following a 10-game road swing, looking to become the first team in program history to start OVC play 4-0. Coming off a huge second half comeback at Austin Peay, the Skyhawks will look to continue their hot scoring. Averaging 90.3 points per game in OVC play, the Skyhawks tallied 64 second half points to defeat Austin Peay 95-81.

For the second consecutive game, the trio of Jasmine Newsome, Heather Butler and Ashia Jones each scored in double figures, led by 37 points from Newsome. Butler joined in the action with 30 points, including going 15-of-16 from the free throw line. Jones rounded out her week with another double figure performance, scoring 11 point. Newsome (Player of the Week) and Jones (Freshman of the Week) both earned OVC weekly honors following their week of strong performances.

Belmont (6-11, 3-1 OVC) comes into the game on a three-game winning streak, including a 92-50 drubbing of Jacksonville State their last time out. Four Bruins reach double figures in the victory, led by the play of leading scorer Jordyn Luffman’s game-high 22 points. Blair Bryce tallied 13 points while Frankie Joubran (12 points) and Taylor Mills (11 points) rounded out the double figure scorers for the Bruins.

Saturday’s matchup will mark the 25th meeting in series history, with the Bruins holding an 18-6 advantage. Despite Belmont taking the last meeting, 58-56, the Skyhawks have won two of the last three matchups.
